About Ed Smith: Since IWIL's founding in 2002, Ed Smith, then a leader with the Laborer's, has stepped forward to provide support and opportunities to both launch and grow IWIL. For years IWIL classes joined hundreds of southern Illinois labor women, attending The Laborer's Women's Conference organized and hosted by Ed Smith, to inform and empower women among his union's membership. As the President and CEO of ULLICO, Ed smith has been a generous supporter of IWIL, not just with financial resources but also with his time, administrative assistance, conference locations and networking opportunities. We honor Ed because of his commitment to supporting women in Illinois and the labor movement.
